IBEW Endorses Al Gross for Congress

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) union is endorsing Al Gross for Alaska’s Congressional seat in the upcoming Special General Election in August. Gross has won the support of both the IBEW International union and the Alaska-based Local 1547, which represents nearly 5,000 union workers throughout the state and is among its most influential and powerful labor unions.

“Union workers are the backbone of our nation and our state, so I’m thrilled to earn the support of the men and women of IBEW who go to work every day to keep our communities running,” said Gross, who finished in the top three of the historic Special Primary election. “As an Independent candidate who is not beholden to the political winds in Washington, working men and women in Alaska can trust that they can always count on me to fight for them and stand up to powerful corporate and special interests on their behalf.”

IBEW’s endorsement adds a crucial dose of momentum into the Gross campaign as it shifts its focus to the ranked choice voting special general election, where he will be the only candidate with a record of standing with union labor and fighting for the middle class.

“After careful consideration and review of all of the candidates running to replace Don Young, IBEW Local 1547 is proud to endorse life-long Alaskan Al Gross for Congress,” said IBEW Local 1547 Business Manager Marcie Obremski. “We appreciated Congressman Don Young’s decades of service as he helped guide Alaska during many critical times. As we stand at this crossroad, where new leadership must take the helm, Al Gross is uniquely qualified to lead our state for years to come. His understanding of the importance of education, healthcare, good jobs and his fierce commitment to working families make him a strong advocate for Alaska on the federal level. We believe his willingness to work across party lines will help relieve the gridlock in Washington DC.”
